ABOUT US . . . The Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association (TOCA) is composed of editors, writers, publishers, photographers, public relations/advertising practitioners, industry association leaders and others involved in green industry communications. From our beginnings in 1990, we've been serving members of the green industry by fostering an open exchange of information regarding issues that affect how we communicate to our various audiences. Each year, TOCA members are served through an annual meeting featuring professional improvement seminars, field tours and a general exchange of ideas; a membership newsletter, TOCA Talk; a scholarship program for aspiring green industry communicators; a writing, design and photography awards program, an environmental communications award program, which includes a $500 stipend to its winner; and a roundtable discussion each November on a pertinent industry issue. There are three levels of membership in TOCA. Active members are those whose primary responsibilities are in turf and ornamental-related editorial positions. Affiliated membership is reserved for those who work with the turf and ornamental communications industry in non-commercial editorial positions such as advertising, public relations or governmental agencies. Honorary life members include those who have rendered distinguished service to TOCA and the turf and ornamental industry. The organization is managed by an executive director, Den Gardner. A small staff assists with the newsletter, administrative details and many logistics for the annual meeting. The TOCA staff takes its directions from an elected board of directors. Board members for 2007-2008 are: Ed Hiscock, president; Margaret McLean, vice president; Debbie Clayton, secretary/treasurer; Bill Klutho, Bob West, Ron Hall, Jared Bodner, Cindy Code, Troy Blewett, Jason Schmaderer, David Cassidy, Eric Schroder, Felicia Gillham, John Reitman, Helen Stone, directors.
