The President’s Corner

Greetings TOCA Friends!

Lacy Ravencraft, TOCA Board President

As we hit the stride of summer (and as I melt in the climbing 100-something temps here in Phoenix), it’s a busy time for us personally and professionally.

For many, it’s vacations and school’s-out-for-summer syndrome, mixed with mid-year reviews and the barrage of seasonal summer topics and projects we’re seeking new angles on.

We’re busy people, leading busier lives—but we can still stay connected with just a touch of mindfulness as we move through the mid-year point. Here are some ways to stay involved with TOCA this summer:

  • TOCA’s strategic plan: As you may have heard at the annual meeting in Cincinnati, our organization is focused on enhancing our collective TOCA future by developing a strategic plan. Details are still evolving, but your participation is important. Whether raising your hand to directly participate in its creation or by sharing your ideas on what you deem essential for a robust association, we want you to be involved in shaping a TOCA future that communications professionals
want to be a part of for years to come.

Stay tuned for news on how to get involved.

  • Committees: Much of the success of TOCA comes from the work driven by its members working on various committees. Whatever your talent or interests, I am quite confident there is a TOCA committee that would welcome your participation with open arms! From membership and awards to communication and professional development or the annual meeting—there’s definitely something that’s your cup of tea! Bonus: working on a committee adds value to your membership as you get to help shape association programs and build deeper relationships with your fellow committee members.
  • Irrigation Show Fireside Chat: Nothing wrong with getting started a little early, and although the Irrigation Show TOCA Networking happens in December, we’ll be designing the professional development aspect of the program soon. Do you have clients or contacts in the irrigation side of the business? Share their information with us to ensure they receive an invitation. Attending the show and have something in mind you’d like to learn more about? Let us know!
  • Let’s Get Social: I know you are working on some great projects this summer – so why not share your story on social? Part of being a TOCA member is getting to showcase your work and learn best practices from peers. Don’t forget to share your activities and show us your work by tagging TOCA on Facebook or Twitter (@TOCAorg) or using the #TOCA hashtag.

If we all just did one thing to stay connected to TOCA this summer, we will all benefit from its collective value.

Until next time, TOCA friends! Lead on…
