GCSAA seeks science editor

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) announced an open position – science editor – for the non-profit, which is a membership-driven association with more than 18,000 members in 78 countries and 80 employees. For this job opening, GCSAA is seeking a detail-oriented, results-driven, self-starter with strong editing skills to join the Golf Course Management (GCM) team – GCSAA’s award-winning flagship publication. This employee will solicit, review, edit and proofread the research section of GCM. In addition, this employee will be responsible for a bimonthly column on topics related to turfgrass and represent GCM at scientific conferences and industry events.

Qualified candidates must possess strong editing skills, specifically scientific/technical editing conventions, high attention to detail and advanced knowledge of copy editing, feature writing and interviewing. A solid understanding of the publications process and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is a plus.

Candidates must have a minimum of five years professional experience working as a science/technical editor or writer, preferably in scholarly publications, and possess a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field or equivalent experience. A degree in plant sciences, especially turfgrass, or related experience is preferred. Editing or writing experience in a technical or scientific capacity is required. Familiarity with the golf industry or experience in an association/non-profit is a plus.
